Environmental Manager
We are currently seeking an Environmental Manager, who will be responsible for managing environmental compliance and environmental management activities for the manufacturing facility in Virginia. This position covers a broad range of environmental responsibilities, including air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, chemical management, environmental permits, inspections, reporting, employee training, and environmental improvement activities.

This role helps ensure that the facility operates in compliance with applicable U.S. federal, Virginia state, and local environmental laws, regulations, permits, and company standards. The Environmental Manager will work closely with plant leadership, production, maintenance, engineering, safety, quality, logistics, procurement, Korean headquarters, external consultants, and regulatory agencies to support stable plant operation, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous environmental improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and support implementation of applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements, including EPA, Virginia DEQ, local utility, and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Permits and Reporting: Manage environmental permits, registrations, renewals, reports, and records related to air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, chemical storage, and other applicable environmental programs.

Air Compliance: Manage air emission sources, emission calculations, permit conditions, control equipment records, maintenance logs, inspections, and required reporting. Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams before installing, modifying, or removing equipment that may affect environmental compliance.

Water and Stormwater Compliance: Manage wastewater and stormwater compliance programs, including applicable discharge permits, sampling, monitoring, inspections, corrective actions, and plan updates.

Waste Management: Manage hazardous waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, universal waste, used oil, scrap, recyclable materials, and general solid waste programs. Ensure proper waste characterization, labeling, accumulation, storage, shipment, disposal, recycling, vendor management, and recordkeeping.

Chemical Management: Maintain chemical inventory, SDS records, storage requirements, secondary containment, compatibility reviews, and chemical approval processes for new raw materials, process chemicals, maintenance chemicals, and laboratory chemicals.

Spill Prevention and Response: Support spill prevention and response activities, including spill response procedures, employee awareness, incident documentation, corrective actions, and coordination with appropriate internal and external parties as needed.

Environmental Management System: Establish and maintain site environmental procedures, inspection programs, compliance calendars, training records, audit checklists, and environmental KPIs. Support ISO 14001 or equivalent environmental management system activities if applicable.

Inspections and Audits: Conduct routine environmental inspections of production areas, storage areas, waste accumulation areas, chemical storage areas, outdoor yards, loading docks, utility areas, and environmental control equipment. Support internal audits, corporate audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.

Training and Communication: Develop and deliver environmental training for employees, supervisors, maintenance personnel, contractors, and visitors, including waste handling, spill response, chemical storage, stormwater protection, and environmental awareness.

New Projects and Change Management: Review new equipment, process changes, facility modifications, new chemicals, and capital projects for environmental impacts and potential permit or compliance requirements before implementation.

Vendor and Consultant Management: Coordinate with environmental consultants, laboratories, waste vendors, recyclers, wastewater service providers, and regulatory agencies. Review vendor performance, manifests, analytical reports, invoices, and compliance deliverables.

Environmental Incident and Corrective Action Management: Manage environmental incidents, deviations, spills, permit exceedances, complaints, and non-compliance issues. Support corrective and preventive actions and communicate status to plant leadership.

Data Management and KPI Reporting: Track environmental metrics such as waste generation, recycling rate, water usage, energy usage, emissions, spills, permit deviations, environmental training completion, and corrective action closure.

Corporate and Headquarters Coordination: Communicate environmental risks, compliance status, regulatory changes, reporting status, and improvement plans to U.S. management and Korean headquarters as needed.

Other Duties: Perform other environmental, EHS, or compliance-related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field required.

Two or more years of environmental compliance or environmental management experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Experience working with U.S. federal, state, and local environmental regulations preferred.

Experience with environmental permits, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, chemical management, environmental inspections, and regulatory reporting preferred.

Experience in the wire, cable, electrical, chemical, automotive, battery, or heavy manufacturing industry is a plus.

Experience supporting new plant start-up, expansion, permitting, or commissioning activities is preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP

Environmental professional certification such as CHMM, REM, or equivalent certification preferred but not required.

Completion of environmental compliance-related training preferred.

Candidates must be willing to complete required environmental compliance training after hire, as applicable.

Skills and Abilities Required:

Working knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.

Understanding of EPA and Virginia DEQ compliance expectations.

Ability to communicate effectively with plant employees, management, regulators, consultants, contractors, and headquarters.
